This captivating rouge Mala is created from Pterocarpus Santalinus, a species of tree grown in southern India.
For millennia it has been valued for its:
1) rich red color, a color of luck in both Indian and Chinese cultures.
2) Its uniquely calming scent.
3) Its anti-inflammatory and medicinal benefits.
It is for these reasons that we decided to use this wood to create this special Mala.
In Tibetan Buddhism, the 108 bead Mala is believed to be powerful in bringing positive forces of self realization & contentment through the recitation of magnetizing mantras.
But we like to use them to help remember to stay mindful, compassionate and grateful. We also find them perfect for reducing stress by rolling them between the fingers or for inducing calm by counting the beads.
We greatly hope that you will enjoy our new Red Sandalwood Mala.

We’re a small company based primarily in Nepal and the USA. From the very start in 2015, we decided we would base our entire business model on good karma. We create original products using eco-friendly materials such as Himalayan hemp, natural stones, wood, and hand made Lokta paper. Our primary goal is to provide meditation tools, self-empowering journals, and other spiritually conscious products that truly help people.
Ultimately, every purchase made on Backpack Buddha directly supports the livelihoods of our team of local artisans and craftsmen who assemble our Mala strands, books and backpacks by hand. In addition, we also make the following donations on your behalf. For every Blessed Mala/Jewelry purchased, we make a significant donation to the Woechen Thuk-je Choeling Monastery. Finally, for every copy of Buddha Bear’s Enlightenment Coloring Book, we donate 1 school grade notebook to an underprivileged student in the Kathmandu Valley.
From all of us at Backpack Buddha in Nepal, Thailand, Guatemala and the USA, we wish you the greatest inner peace, self-love, discipline, and happiness on your path.
