Buddhist monks & scholars have utilized Lokta bark paper for centuries. It is used as a medium to transcribe ancient texts as well as to record one's spiritual progress.

This traditional journal is made by hand at 11,482 ft above sea level, in a village with a history of making this special paper for over 2,000 years.

As a result, your purchase directly helps keep this ancient art alive and supports the livelihoods of these remarkable craftsman.

The eyes painted on the front of this journal is known as the Buddha's Eyes of Wisdom, a symbol of omnipresent compassion. The dot between the eyes is known as the third eye and symbolizes awakening. Finally, the symbol below the eyes is the sanskrit numeral 1, symbolizing the unity of all things.

Before we write in our journal, we like to contemplate this ancient and powerful symbol with the hope of gaining deeper insight into our selfs or into a situation that has been troubling us.
